A Day At The Kennel

We have a lot of people ask, “What does my dog do all day while he is here?”  Well for all of you out there who wonder what your pup does at camp, this is a layout of how an average kennel day works.

A day at the kennel starts even before we filp the open sign, we usually start around 7-7:30 in the morning. The dogs all go outside in their runs to strech and wake up for the day. While they are each going out indiviually to get their playtime, we also clean and disinfect their inside runs. We make sure everyone has nice, fresh, warm bedding to rest on and fresh cold water to drink. Once we are all done playing and cleaning, everyone goes back inside to get ready for breakfast while we quickly tidy up outside.

Next comes breakfast and medication time. We fix everyone their breakfast just they way their parents specified, and while that is being handed out we prepare the medications to be administered and then we pass them out, carefully making sure that everyone who gets medication takes it properly. As soon as food and meds are all passed out we give everyone plenty of time to eat while we tidy up some more. After that we pick up all the empty bowls, leaving those down that still have food. While everyone is settling down for a little nap we then take turns taking our own lunch breaks.

As soon as we are all finished with our lunches, its time to go out again! The dogs do the same as in the morning, they go out to get their playtime and they each get some good one-on-one time with our camp counselors. Once everyone is worn out again, its back inside to get things tidied up agin and start on supper. By this time it is about 3:00 and everyone has run off breakfast and ready for something to eat! We get food prepared and passed out, following basically the same routine as in the morning. After tidying up some more it is time to close the shop for the day and have on last break before tuck-in.

Tuck-in is just as it sounds, we get everyone all tucked in for bedtime. at about 6:00 our campers head outside for some more playtime and get good and worn out. After a long day of playing and having fun everyone is ready for a good night’s rest! So, everyone gets tucked in and if there is any more medication that needs administered we do that as well. After this big, fun day it is finally time to get to bed and catch some sleep so we can be ready to do it all again the next day!
