A Resort-Like Haven for Beloved Companion Animals

Winding Road Kennel has been in business for over two decades. It was founded by Ron and Denise Rodeheaver in 1993 with the goal of providing a safe, comfortable, camp/resort-like haven for beloved companion animals. We provide each of our guests with superior care and human companionship while their families are away.

We are certified Companion Animal Hygienists and fully licensed. We belong to the National Dog Groomers Association of America and the Pet Care Services Association, as well. All of our concierge staff members are caring professionals who also enjoy working with animals. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your journey!

A Typical Day at the Kennel

A typical day at the Winding Road Kennel is as follows:

Our day begins at 7:00 AM (before we officially open for business). Every morning of the year, we open up the individual dog runs so that the dogs can get out to enjoy the weather, stretch, do their personal business, interact with their human assistants, and exercise for a bit.

Collie Running

While the dogs are busy getting ready for their day, we are, too! We are busy cleaning and disinfecting their indoor runs, replacing their bedding with soft, clean bedding, and supplying fresh, cold water to drink.

After everyone is done, we quickly clean up outside, round everyone up, and head back inside for breakfast and medication time.

Lab getting food

Each guest has his breakfast prepared as specified and our guests who are taking prescription medication are carefully given their medications exactly as prescribed.

While our guests are finishing up breakfast, we begin cleaning up their bowls (leaving bowls that still contain food in place) and our guests are permitted a bit of naptime while our staff begins to alternate their own lunch breaks.

After our staff finishes up their lunch breaks, it’s time to get back outside for some fresh air! Each guest receives some more one-on-one interaction time until everyone is worn out and ready for supper.

We clean up and head in for supper and medication time and then relax for a bit. Then, we have one last outside break at from 6:00 – 9:00 PM before administering any nighttime medications and tucking our guests in for the night.

After a fun-filled day of intense interaction and excitement, our pet guests are always ready to settle in and relax for the next day!

Information for First Time Boarders

First time boarders should plan to arrive 30 to 45 minutes early on check-in day. We prefer to get to know your pet and gather information about any special needs that he or she may have so that we can provide the best possible care for your pet as a guest at our lodging house.

Please see the vaccination requirements for boarding with us (on our home page). Shot records may be faxed directly to us from your veterinarian at: (304) 428-3545 or you may bring the records with you when you arrive to check in and drop off your pet.

Last minute emergency boarding is available as space allows.

Please note that all reservations require a deposit by cash, cleared check, or credit card. After reservations have been secured, we will ask you to complete a health history form. We will then complete a boarding contract with you and get your pet registered and settled into his or her room.

If you are nervous about boarding for the first time, we recommend a trial experience for your pet as a day guest at our daycare program. Your pet can become accustomed to the way we operate in advance of your extended leave and he or she will feel relaxed and comfortable at his/her home away from home.

If you are a first time boarder, please read through all of the information on our site to get an idea of what to expect. If you have any further questions or would like to schedule boarding with Winding Road Kennel, please contact us at: (304) 428-3518. We look forward to meeting with and having your pet as our guest –we have a lot of fun here!
